STORIES: Silent Cry - autism in a family
Janet is raising nine-year-old triplets on her own, with two of them being autistic. Nikki is considered to be on the severe side of the spectrum and is unable to use any words and is often in her own world, but Dougie does have some vocabulary. The third child, Alex is the only typical child and is often on her own.
Autism is a disorder associated with having difficulties in communication and social interaction. Janet strongly believes the childhood vaccines caused the disorder, but does not know how or why.
When the triplets were six, Janet's husband, Doug suddenly died of pulmonary embolism. He had no life insurance.
Janet, now 46 does not have a job that gives her the flexibility or the pay that she is looking for, so she lives off of social security checks she receives every month. Raising the triplets takes all her time and energy. Janet claims that she has looked and asked for help in all directions, but cannot seem to find any.
Everyday is a struggle for Janet and her kids.
